Top 10 Films of 2012

So I know 2013 is half over, but I've been really wanting to do a top 10 films of 2012 for some time, and never did. So I'm going to do it now. My biggest dilemma was trying to decide placement, because it was a really good year for movies! And some films I've seen 5+ times where others I've only seen once, I wanted to re-watch some before I did this but then it may never come out so I'm just going to start it and try to be as actuate as possible.

10.

John Carter
Based on the Classic Novel "A Princess of Mars" (should have stuck with that title imo) by Edgar Rice  Burroughs (which I still have to finish reading)
was considered the father of Sci-fi novels
and famous films today drew from its souces (Star Wars... Avatar).

So if people didn't know that they'd probably say that this film was unoriginal, when in reality it came first and in my opinion  is very original.

As for the film itself, it's probably one of the most underrated movies of the year. Don't get me wrong, it's not perfect and it's not as good as Star Wars or Avatar, but it is a solid Sci-Fi/Fantasy adventure in its own right. Starting off on Earth, John Carter- played by Taylor Kitsch, who if not perfect does a solid performance as the title character- is a war veteran of the civil war. He pretty much hates everything and everyone after losing his wife and child. He is arrested for assault and offered parole if he joins the army. He refuses and later manages to escape, and then he is transported to Mars by a strange medallion while seeking refuge in a cave.
He encounters a strange alien race, called Tarks, green and ten feet tall, who "capture" him and sort of treat him as one of their hatchlings. The visual spectacular of this film is quite beautiful, and I was quite impressed with the CGI, which can so easily look fake; the Tarks look and seem real. One thing I liked about this movie was that it had nice character development of supporting characters, especially "Sola", a female Tark who takes John Carter under her wing- she's sad, funny and cute, and you can't help but care for her. He also befriends a giant bulldog/frog looking creature, which follows him everywhere and is just adorable. And then of course there the Princess of Mars herself, Dejah Thoris, played by the beautiful Lynn Collins who does a excellent job in her role as the kick-butt princess and is probably the best performance in the movie. The scope and feel of the film itself is very retro and feels like a Roman epic of the 1960s (only not nearly as boring) with the dessert setting and Romanesque dress and architecture. I was also impressed with the pace of the film, it set up nicely and was executed in a timely fashion. Not just a good film- a great film, and if you haven't seen it yet you should!

1: for real

Man of Steel

so, anyone who knows me even a little bit probably knows how much I was looking forward to this film counting down the days watching every trailer 50 times.. well for one thing they were the best previews for a film I have ever seen , hands down for an other Superman is my favorite superhero so of course I'm super excited for this film.. did it live up to my expectations? yes and no.

don't get me wrong I loved loved loved this movie visually it was probably the most beautiful film I've ever seen, not just the effects but the angle of the cameras. everything just beautiful, Henry Cavill who plays superman nailed it in my opinion, perfect superman/Kal-El (clark wasn't really utilized to the fullest capacity though, but I think they're saving that for the sequel, the action sequences were amazing, for someone moving that fast it was the most realistic take I've seen on it, Russel Crowe as Jor-El Kal-El father was amazing as well, pretty much only two things were a bit of a letdown for me, one was that some of the scenes felt short and could have gone deeper to explore more character development for such a stellar cast I feel like they weren't really used to their fullest potential.. but something that can easily be more drawl out in the sequel. the other was while the last battle sequence was very epic it could have been just a little shorter. but other then that and one or two other details I won't go into right now, I loved it amazing film perfect Superman, amazing Visuals, great score my favorite superhero film.. A+ also it sets up the scope for a wider DC universe much like Iron Man did for avengers.. and I'm very much looking forward to Justice League. The Flash, Aquaman and Hopefully a much overdo Wonder Women film. and of Course Man of Steel 2!

Well there you have it my top 5 films of the Year so far! probably do a list of 5 films still to see this year. soon

1.Man of Steel
2.Star Trek Into Darkness
3.The Host
4.Warm Bodies
5.Oz: The Great and Powerful
1!!!
Barbie's Dream Castle..

oh Wow I know I've been talking about this film forever and you all know it's my favorite movie of all time now, but lets just elaborate on like when she first goes ice skating in the clouds breathtaking! or the part where she first dances with the prince! and it's so emotionally and in-depth. for a animated film loved it sooo! much A+++

well that's it folks my top 5 of the year so far! did it surprise you? comment below and fellow me! hope to be more active now.
2!!!

Star Trek Into Darkness

wow! I just I don't know what to say, I loved loved the first 'Star Trek' well J.J. Abrams 2009 Star Trek didn't think they could top it.. the adds while I thought looked good didn't completely convince me that it would be absolutely beautifully amazing   ....

which is what this film was it was like a roller coaster ride of all the right ingredients. it was just so fantastic from start to finish.. the acting was outstanding the visuals were amazing, the right amount of emotion and the score! it was one of the best films I've ever seen and even better then the first! after my over anticipation wears off for the movie that will not be named.. it might even end up number one on the list in my year in best films.. well see, do yourself a favor and see this film! it made me laugh and cry! A+
3: The Host

Yes an other romance, maybe because last year was so slim on them I was actually missing them a bit. or they just got very creative and weird this year.

I'm not sure why I liked this movie so much but I did, maybe cause it was soo weird, but there' no blood sucking or human eating so the more timid watching might be able to stomach this one at least

based on the Novel by Stephenie Meyer, (Author of Twilight)  It takes place on earth after planet earth is taken over my a parasitic alien race that takes over human bodies to make peacefully worlds, there is a girl named Melanie, who resists and is able to convince "wonderer" her Host to escape, with beautiful scenery and a unique story, it's a romance but that's not necessary the main part of the story it's more about the human spirit and well to survive and an unlikely very interesting friendship       that progresses throughout. loved the movie can't wait to get it when it comes out in about a week A-
4: Warm Bodies

I wasn't sure what to think of this movie at first, from the previews I couldn't tell if it would be another "Twilight" rip-off with Zombies!, which how can a movie while the guy is a zombie be romantic? well just watch the movie and you'll see, I couldn't stop smiling while watching this movie, it's about a Zombie name "R" well thats all he can remember of his name who finds himself drawl to a girl, named "Julie" (Romeo & Juliet anyone?) and ends up saving her from his zombie buddies and some how starts to become human again. it's funny, sweet, and just happy! sure it has it's gross parts.. (Spoiler )him eating her boyfriends brain to gives him his memories. which is weird and well gross. but I just found this movie a light happy pleasant surprise! high B+
5: Oz: the Great and Powerful.

Now, this was a tough decision actually. but Alas I went back and remembered how I felt watching this film and I actually had pretty low expectations for this film. thought it would be cheesy and that the monkey would be Jar Jar Binks awful!. I actually found him quite funny and while it's not masterpiece, it was visually stunning I especially. liked China girl, she looked real and fragile. and some of the sets were just gorgeous. but what I really enjoyed about this movie was it's humor and lightheartedness. it was just so childlike you might say sure not the deepest story and down-on-his-luck selfish dude goes on adventure to learn a lessen or two and ends up saving the day.. well for the most part.. although thoedora should have had a little sense oh well, overall an Enjoyable film, that took me by surprise! B+

(an honorable mention goes to "Safe Haven" which I found quite good, one of the better Nicholas Sparks Adaptations, and probably liked it about just as well)
Hi  Everyone! I know it's been forever sense my last blog update, and I'm sorry

so 2013 is already halfway over! can you believe it?!

and so far it's been a very interesting year movie-wise, if you've been paying any attention to my facebook page, you know that my most anticipated film of the year-well of several years more like. "Man of Steel" is finally out, and I've seen it of course.. three times.

but I guess the thing to do now is to make a list! cause thats what I do best, I also need to give a in-depth Review for at least "Man of Steel" but I'll start off my doing the top 5 films of the year so far.. That I've seen, there are several movies i really wanted to see and still haven't.
Now You See Me, The Croods, 42, Oblivion, G. I. Joe 2. I haven't seen Monsters University or the Heat yet, I'll probably see at least one of those in theaters though.

well I guess I'll start the list, let me Start by saying I was soo excited for "Iron Man 3" it looked like it would be awesome from the trailers and really epic. and I don't know if it was just that it was not what I was expecting or what but so far I'd have to say for me it was the biggest letdown of the year, for me, I guess it looked like it would be a bit more gritty and dark and it wasn't really, so I'm intersting to see what I'll think of it when I see it again on Dvd, it wasn't Awful. but not one of my favorite Superhero Movies, so it's not on the list. It might be higher once I watch it again though.

So Number 5 goes too...

 Movies of 2013 Part 1

First Quarter (Jan-Mar)

Hey Everyone. if you remember I made a list of my 13 most anticipated films of 2013..well now that's it's closer to next year I kind of wanted to do a re-cape. some things have remain the same but some have changed. but this time I do them in chronological release order.. starting with the first quarter of the year. there's a lot of movies I want to see this Winter/Spring. but no not much sees like last year (The Hunger Games, John Carter and Phantom Menace 3D would all fit that category last year. The Impossible, being the only one the might get that treat.)

The Impossible 1.4.13 (Limited 12.21.12)

So technically this is a 2012 release.   but this movie looks soo good and isn't really available to the public until 2013 so it fits.

telling the true story of a surviving family of  the 2004 tsunami. separated by the disaster. the family searches  desperately to be reunited. Staring Ewan Mcgregor and Naomi Watts, both great actors. who are being praise for thier outstanding proforances in their respecting roles. this movie just truly moving, and triumphant. I'm excited for this one.

Interest level  8.5/10 Anticipation level: 7/10

Gangster Squad 1.11.13

set in the 1940s a group of cops go under cover to try stop a mafia crime lord Mickey Cohen.

looks interesting enough from the previews. not at the top of my to see list, but I might check it out. it does have Emma Stone..

Staring Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin and Emma Stone.

Interest level  5/10 Anticipation level: 1/10

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 1.25.13

A twist on a classic tale, Hasnel and Gretel are all grown up and hunt down witches for a living.

from the previews it's hard to say weather this will actually be any good or not, and I'm not usually one for a gore fest, but Jeremy Renner is pretty awesome. and Gemma Arterton is pretty easy on the eyes.  and it does have me intrigued at least a little.

Interest level  5.5/10 Anticipation level: 2/10

A Good Day to Die Hard. 2.14.13

John McClane travels to Russia to help out his seemingly wayward son, Jack, only to discover that Jack is a CIA operative working to prevent a nuclear-weapons heist, causing the father and son to team up against underworld forces.

Looks like it could be decent, a little to shot-em up for me. but might be worth a try. I did like, live free or die hard quite well, Don't know if I'll make it to the theater for this or not, so not really at the top of my list either. I don't think I need to say who it's staring..

Interest level  6/10 Anticipation level: 2/10

Safe Haven 2.14.13

A young woman with a mysterious past lands in Southport, North Carolina where her bond with a widower forces her to confront the dark secret that haunts her.

this is the next Nicholas Sparks novel to be turned into a movie, kind of a hit and miss movie series imo (Liked A Walk to Remember, not Dear John) this movie looks like the latter. it ads a suspense element, to it takes gives it a fresh (for a Nicolas Spark movie anyway) feel. and I like Josh Duhamel. so might actually be good. but still pretty low on my to see list.

Interest level  6/10 Anticipation level: 2/10

 Jack the Giant Slayer 3.1.13

The Classic Tale of Jack and the bean Stock. with a somewhat different take on the tales, finds jack fighting giants (ugly giants) and finding love. Jack played by  Nicholas Hoult who played Beast in X-Men First Class. who I thought did a pretty solid job in that. looks to be decent in this, but the main reason this film interest me is Ewan McGregor. who plays a cocky Knight(?). and it's Directed by Bryan Singer  (director of X-Men and X-Men 2). but I have my reservations weather this will actually be good or not. I Mean pretty much casting alone should make it better then say "Eragon" but I don't like the look of the giants at all, they're so obviously CGI. I hate it when film companies think. just because it's a "Blockbuster" they have to use CGI just cause they can. real actors with make-up would have been better. and it also has some stuff that would sigjest it could get a little cheese. but never-the-less I do want to see it. and probably will end up catching it in cinemas.

Interest level  7/10 Anticipation level: 6/10

Oz: The Great And Powerful 3.8.13

a Prequel to "The Wizard of Oz" tells the story of how Oz a Simple Magician of the real world, fond his way into the land of Oz. and became the great and powerful Directed By Sam Raimi (who directed the "Spider-Man" Trilogy)

Staring James Franco, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, and Michelle Williams. it has a very talented cast to say the least. and the Visuals while somewhat cartoony do look, a little dazzling. I must confess I'm not the biggest "OZ" fan, but this movie might just be worth a try. and I might even be a little excited for it

Interest level  7.5/10 Anticipation level: 7.5/10

The Croods 3.22.13

The world's very first prehistoric family goes on a road trip to an uncharted and fantastical world.
I don't believe in evolution or the Stone ages for that matter (Jesus is Lord )

but this a cute family animation surprised me with the trailer. the animation is beautiful. and DreamWorks has more hits then misses. now I doubt it will make my top 10 favorite animations. but I wouldn't mind venturing to the theater to see this. and it also stars Emma Stone. I don't think Nicholas Cage should do voices. he just doesn't sound good. and his voices stands out way too much. Ryan Reynolds as Epp's (Emma Stone) love interest sounds great. so overall I'm quite looking forward to this.

Interest level  7/10 Anticipation level: 6.5/10

G. I. Joe: Retaliation 3.29.13

The Sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. The G.I. puts the Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; but they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence as well.

I saw the first preview for this movie like a year ago. and I liked it alot. but I'm kind of up and dawn with this movie, I mean G. I. Joe was corny, enjoyable but still corny. I hope this is a little less cheese and a little more story. but you can only hope for some much from a movie based on a action figure. but still the action looks great. and I'm sure I'll be seeing it.

Interest level  7.5/10 Anticipation level: 7.5/10

and last but not least is.

The Host 3.29.13

Opening the same day as G. I. Joe. is Stephenie Meyer's adaption of her Sci-Fi  Novel "The Host" where Aliens invade earth by taking over humans bodies and overriding their willpower. Melanie Stryder however; is one who resists. there also a Love triangle thing going on of course. out of all the movies releases this spring this one at least looks the most original. and the preview is weird but in a good way. I haven't read the book yet. but I want to. now I am  kind of a twilight fan, not a crazy one, but I don't think it deserves the ridicule it gets  (maybe some of it :P). but this is probably one of the most anticipated movies of the first quarter for me.

Interest level  7.5/10 Anticipation level: 7.5/10

so there you have, 10 films that interest me in the first quarter of 2013

a lot of them I want to see about the same but if there was an order it might be like this

1# The Impossible
2# The Host
3# Oz: the Great and Powerful
4# G. I. Joe: Retaliation
5# The Croods
6# Jack the Giant Slayer
7# Safe Haven
8# A Good Day to Die Hard
9# Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters
10# Gangster Squad

Are you happy now Andrea..
